Seasons greetings

Enjoy cycling at Christmas:

The staff at Bikewest would like wish all of our subscribers a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

The gift of a bicycle is a terrific Christmas present. Bikewest would like to remind everyone to make a few important checks to ensure a safe Christmas:

  • Check that the bike has been assembled correctly;
  • Make sure seats are the correct height for the rider;
  • Check helmets fit correctly and are adjusted to fit firmly;
  • Wear highly visible clothing so you can be seen;
  • Check clothes are unlikely to become caught in the chain; and
  • Take care when riding on paths or roads, even on quiet local streets.

Online crash reporting:

The Insurance Commission of WA and WA Police have launched a new service called Crash Report, an online reporting service for all road users.

When to report a traffic crash:

The driver of a vehicle or rider of a bike must report a traffic crash when the incident occurred on a road or any place commonly used by the public, e.g. car parks; and

  • the incident resulted in death or bodily harm to another person; or
  • the owner or representative of any damaged property is not present.

By reporting a crash on this site you will have complied with the legal requirements for an owner, driver or rider to report a property damage crash to WA Police

HBF Freeway Bikehike for Asthma 2010:

Entering its sixth year, the annual HBF Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma will launch the 25th Cycle Instead Bikeweek - the State’s annual week-long celebration of recreational and commuter cycling.

The HBF Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma is Western Australia's largest single day cycling event and the third largest cycling event in Australia.

  • Make a date for Sunday, 21 March 2010

The event caters for beginners through to elite cyclists and includes three options to choose from;

  • 60km from Kwinana Train Station;
  • 30km from Belmont Park Racecourse; or
  • 10km Family Ride from Greenwood Train Station.

All three rides finish in the City of Joondalup.

Best wishes from,

The Bikewest team
